| | | | Welcome to the Northwest PennsylvaniaArea Health Education Center Bridging Academic and Community Resources to Meet the Healthcare Needs of Northwest Pennsylvania
The NW PA AHEC works to help communities in Northwest Pennsylvania meet their primary health care needs through various workforce development activities. The AHEC provides resources for health career exploration to high school students through job shadowing experiences and health career camps, and provides information to young students to encourage careers in health care. Through Health Careers Opportunity Programming, the AHEC hopes to increase the number of individuals from minorities and underserved communities who enter primary care and allied health professions. It maintains relationships with students in the pipeline, helping them transition to graduate school and eventual job placement.
Through its funding and network resources, the AHEC promotes and provides continuing professional education to primary care providers in rural and underserved areas. The NW PA AHEC also provides technical assistance in the evaluation and assessment of the public health needs of communities within the NW PA region and supplies innovative, multi-disciplinary responses to those needs.
