| | | | Health Professionals Continuing Education The AHEC facilitates and promotes training programs that focus on recruitment, re-entry, retraining and retention initiatives, particularly in the rural and underserved areas.
Through its funding and network resources, the AHEC works to bring continuing education to the primary care providers in the rural and underserved areas. The education may be in the form of conferences, seminars, training programs or satellite downlinks. The AHEC will also facilitate programs that allow professionals to go to academic centers for specific procedural training to enhance the delivery of care to patients in the rural areas. An example is the “Physician in Residence” program, where physicians spend a number of days at the medical school learning either a newly developed procedure, or one that they have not done before in their practice. These workshops are designed for the individual physician so that he or she may comply with credentialing requirements of their respective medical staff. Through our various hospital partners we are able to co-sponsor programs to provide continuing medical education credits needed to maintain professional licenses.
The NW PA AHEC attempts to utilize its resources throughout the 15-county area so that all primary care practitioners in the rural and underserved areas are able to benefit. If you or your primary care group would like more information on these programs, please contact our office.
