Continuing Professional Education Programs Available
- Emerging Gender Difference in Health Care:
Straight to the Heart of Women, is an
educational program about cardiovascular disease in women.
This new program was created by the Pennsylvania Area Health
Education Center in collaboration with the Departments of
Internal Medicine and Cardiac Rehabilitation at the
Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and the
Pennsylvania Department of Health. Its aim is to
increase knowledge and awareness of Cardio Vascular Disease as it applies to
women and their health behaviors throughout their life
cycle. The complete learning activity is contained in
a resource binder, which includes all educational tools and
a sixty minute audio CD. Instructional slides,
articles on related topics and the complete transcripts for
the presentation are also included. In addition, pre-
and post-test evaluations are included that afford 2.0
prescribed continuing medical education credits through the
American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) at no cost to
you. To order your copy, please contact Jane Mullinax
at (814) 453-6551, x224.
- CD Toolkit for All Hazards Preparedness for
Primary Healthcare Physicians, is a new program
that was created by the Pennsylvania Area Health Education
Center in collaboration with The Pennsylvania Department of
Health and Emergency Management Innovations, LLC.
As a member of Pennsylvania’s
health professions workforce, you are a vital link in the
chain of preparedness planning and emergency response.
Effective planning and response is achieved by coordination,
cooperation and the participation of many groups,
individuals and the community. A highly effective planning
and response team can be formed between regional emergency
management teams, facility staff, community groups and you.
This tool kit is designed with two specific objectives in
mind. The first is to provide quick access to important
reference materials concerning core content areas vital to
emergency preparedness on both state and national levels.
These reference materials continue the development of your
learning curve, while the cited web links make available
updated information on statewide and national efforts and
advancements in managing terror events. The second objective
looks to provide relevant materials to address your office
needs as well as concerns or questions coming from patients
and the community. To order your copy, please
contact Jane Mullinax at (814) 453-6551, x224.
- Oral Cancer Screening, A Brief Overview,
is an eleven minute video produced by The Oral Cancer Center
at the University of Pittsburgh. This video is free to
health professionals living in the NW PA AHEC region.
Limited supplies are on a first come, first served basis.
The video reviews how to conduct an oral cavity, head and
neck cancer exam. Performing the exam is a quick and
painless way to promote the health and well being of your
patients. It requires no special equipment and is
considered non-invasive. This procedure may discover
cancer in an early stage and can help patients avoid major
potentially disfiguring surgery. To order your copy,
contact Jane Mullinax at (814) 453-6551, x224.
- Tobacco Cessation & Intervention Continuing
Medical Education Series, is a live program
